As a member of the extended family of the Long Blue Line, I send the thoughts and support to all who grieve the tragic loss of Det. Brian Simonsen. Dad was with NYPD for over 30 years, retiring as a Captain in the early 80s. The content of his character comes through in the film clips of his neighbors, friends and NYPD family. We are all the poorer for his loss. As someone who has worked in health care for over 40 years, I am touched by his act of selflessness in the end by donating his organs. What a demonstration of strength and love by his wife in a time of such pain and sorrow. Last roll call answered Brian. Truly, the saddest notes of music are heard when Taps is rendered for a fallen hero. I'm sure Dad and the "band of brothers" welcomed Brian home, and now they stand watch for all who serve in harm's way. Rest in Peace. Sincerely, Karen Simon

Our deepest condolences and sympathys to Detective Simonsen's family and most especially to His Wife and to Brian's Mom. May God be very close to you all during this saddest of times and may The Blessed Virgin Mary wrap you all in her loving mantel. Having 3 Sons as police officers and a Retired Husband police Detective I can only imagine what this time must be like for you all. The funeral Mass with 13 Catholic Priests and 2 Bishops of the Church with such a great out pouring of support from the thousands of police officers from across the Country was a sight to be held by all and astounding to see the depth of caring and love that would have made Detective Simonsen so incredibly proud and humbled. This Man truly died a hero and quoting Bishop Barres (a good Samaritan) rushing to where help was needed. This act of putting His own life before others to help assist was His very last action done upon this earth. He didn't die in vain and we know How great His reward in all eternity will be with Him forever. It sounds like Detective Simonsen died doing what He loved doing most and best.(That of Helping other's). and also not the first time doing this as so many of our police officers do every Day and we the public are extremely thankful for and could never repay their many acts of heroism to keep us all safe and free from harm like Detective Simonsen did on his very last day of His Life. May Brian's last actions in life helping others bring you much comfort and peace of mind and be a treasured memorial of His life and knowing that Brian is with you closer than ever before watching over all of you and coming to your help and assistance now with His prayers. Our familys as so many others thoughts and prayers will be with you in these coming days ahead in a very special way. We're so truly sorry for your loss. Blessings. The Kerstiens family Ave Maria
